What this site collects, and what happens to it

The Ask Jeff form

The form asks for your name, an email address or phone number, and whatever you tell me about the vehicle you're driving and what you're trying to figure out. It reaches me by email through the site's hosting provider, Netlify, which stores the submission so it isn't lost in transit.

I use it to answer you. I don't sell it, rent it, trade it, or add you to a mailing list. If your question turns into a vehicle purchase, the dealership will need some of the same information to complete that transaction, and you'll be giving it to them directly at that point.

If you'd like me to delete what you sent, ask and I'll delete it.

Google Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read. It tells me how many people came, roughly where from, which pages held their attention, and whether they arrived from a search engine, a link, or an AI assistant. It does not tell me who you are.

Analytics only runs if you accept it. Until you do, no analytics cookie is set — that's what the notice at the bottom of the page is for. If you decline, the site works exactly the same; I just don't count the visit. Your IP address is anonymised before it reaches Google, and you can opt out at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser or by installing Google's opt-out add-on.

Server logs

The site is hosted by Netlify, which keeps ordinary server logs — the kind every web host keeps. These record requests to the site and are used to keep it running and to stop abuse. I don't use them for marketing.

What this site doesn't do

There are no advertising trackers, no retargeting pixels, no social media widgets, and no third-party embeds beyond the analytics described above and the web fonts the pages are set in. Nothing on this site collects payment information, credit details, or a social security number — I never ask for those here, and you should be wary of any website that does.
